Canopy Walk and Jungle Boat

Taman Negara Classic

Our Taman Negara Classic module will offer you a relaxed exciting taste of the Malaysian jungle in Malaysia’s most famous national park the Taman Negara.

When night falls in the jungle and the rainforest comes alive with mysterious sounds it’s like being in another world. During the day you can enjoy walks through the jungle and see the rainforest from 30ft above the ground on a spectacular Malaysia canopy walk. As the sun sets and the rainforest falls into complete darkness you can also head back into the jungle for the jungle night walk. You'll be staying in a comfortable wooden bungalow.

Day 1

At 8.45am you’ll take the luxury bus from opposite your hotel in Chinatown to the small village of Kuala Tembeling, approximately a 3-hour bus ride. At the port office of Kuala Tembeling you’ll be asked to fill in your personal details for your pass to the Taman Negara National Park. You’ll need to pay extra for your camera (only a couple of dollars). It’s best to pack just the essentials for the next two days in one bag or rucksack and leave the rest of your luggage in safe storage at the office of the Mutiara Resort in the port. We’ve never had any problems but it’s always at your own risk.

Next you’ll step onto a wooden jungle boat for a relaxed boat trip along the Sungai Tembeling river. As you pass the densely overgrown river banks you’ll get a good impression of the Malaysian jungle. After about 3 hours the boat will moor at the jetty of your luxury resort where you’ll be staying during your visit to Taman Negara. In the evening there’s a video presentation about the National Park if you’re interested. The resort also has an excellent (buffet) restaurant, but you can also head across the river to one of the floating restaurants in Kuala Tahan. For an exciting introduction to the jungle we can recommend the guided night walk on your first night in Taman Negara.

Day 2 & 3

This morning have a bit of a lie-in and a leisurely breakfast in the hotel restaurant. There are many excursions that you can book locally. Be sure to head off in the morning to the jungle for the canopy walk, a suspending walkway that winds through the jungle treetops. From 30ft up you’ll get a completely different perspective of the rainforest around you. The walk with a guide takes around 3 hours.

In the afternoon you can relax back at the resort and recover from the tropical heat and exercise. Later on you can go rafting or visit a local village of the Orang Asli tribe, Malaysia’s indigenous inhabitants. In the evening take a sunset cruise or discover the nocturnal jungle on a guided nightwalk.. All these activities can be booked at reception, preferably on the day of arrival to avoid disappointment.

Day 4

After breakfast it’s time to take the boat back to Kuala Tembeling. The boat leaves 9am sharp so make sure you get to the jetty on time. Downstream the boat trip takes just 2 hours. Please note that the boat back to Kuala Tembeling and your bus trip back to Kuala Lumpur are not included in this module as most travellers choose to continue travelling to other parts of Malaysia. Taman Negara lies right in the centre of Malaysia which means you can continue your trip in any direction, though the following modules are great choices and connect very well:

East: Creative Kampung Life  or Tropical Gems on the East Coast
West: Twin Towers and Chopsticks Kuala Lumpur or Time for Tea

Jungle travel tips

Best time to travel
March - September. The resort is often fully booked in August, but we can offer a good alternative in Kuala Tahan. From November - February there's a risk that certain activities are cancelled because of the monsoon.

Restaurants
The resort has a good restaurant but across the river you'll also find lots of fun, cheap places to eat in one of the many floating restaurants.

Additional fees for (video) camera
You'll pay your entrance fee for Taman Negara National Park in Kuala Tembeling. The fee is included in the module price, but you'll need to pay a small additional fee (couple of $) for your (video)camera. This is not included in the Malaysia canopy tour module price.

Canopy walk
If you want to do the canopy walk on your own you won't need to leave early. The canopy walkway doesn't open until 10.30am.
